Fans of Clive Barker's Nightbreed have obviously been waiting for years to get their hands on a Director's Cut of the film, and by his own admission, Clive Barker has been waiting to release one. Unfortunately, it seems that we'll all be waiting a bit longer, which I personally hope isn't tantamount to an eternity.

Nevertheless, the rumours and the hope persist. And in the spirit of keeping hope alive, here are what I consider to be the tastiest facts and rumours released regarding the Director's Cut of Nightbreed. If you have any additional information to contribute, feel free to drop me a line at baphomette@halfeatencorpse.com.

The Facts

If and/or when a Director's Cut of Nightbreed is released, it will include 25 additional minutes of footage shot when Nightbreed was filmed (not to mention possible commentary and additional content).

Clive Barker has expressed continuous interest in releasing a Director's Cut of Nightbreed. Unfortunately, he does not have the footage required to bring the project to fruition in his possession.

Clive Barker was told that the additional footage is likely buried in Fox's vaults somewhere. However, they have not disclosed the location of those vaults, nor has he been given access to them.

If given access to Fox's vaults, Clive Barker has mentioned several times that he would search for the additional footage himself.

In October 2001, Warner Home Video claimed that the Director's Cut of Nightbreed was on their tentative schedule for 2002. However, in March 2004, they said there were no plans to release it at that time.

The Rumours

The additional footage is rumoured to include additional character development, graphic gore, at least one scene of a sexual nature that involved Boone and the other members of the Breed and more "monsters".

Although nobody seems to know where it originated from, a potential design for the Director's Cut packaging has been circulating around the net. Some think it might be a hoax, but information located on the package states that its design was copyrighted by Warner Home Video in 2002 (which was when Warner Home Video initially planned to release a Director's Cut of Nightbreed).
